The X-Series: Recognising the need for problem-solving innovation in the lab automation industry, Flexible Lab Solutions launched 'X-Series' - an accessories line dedicated to addressing common and not so common issues that clients may face. The X-Series stands as an icon in the lab automation industry, representing a commitment to research and development, innovation, futurism and ensuring client satisfaction, and access to bespoke solutions. Products such as the XHotel range have revolutionised microplate inventory by handling lean angles greater than 60° degrees due to precision-machined shelves, which also facilitate ultra-dependable pick-and-place operations.

All of our accessories and options are designed to integrate seamlessly within our systems, from the SmartDeck systems to our flagship Smartcel 2 systems. Customers can upgrade existing systems utilising the modular design methodology at the heart of all our products.

XHotel

The XHotel's precision machined shelves create ultra-reliable pick and place and will tolerate handling lean angles in excess of 60 degrees.

Available in multiple height and spacing formats to suit a variety of microplates and robot reach heights.

Shelves can be removed and interchanged as required, without compromise to the overall integrity of the positioning.

PlateStax

The PlateStax storage system allows for accurate pick and place of both lidded and unlidded stacked microplates.

Each PlateStaX unit has a notional capacity of 28 microplates.

Larger output PlateStaX units can also be selected to increase storage capacity and allow multiple output plates to be grouped together.

Docking & Undocking

Docking onto the X-Locator
The LabworX™ 10 point locator system allows for rapid interchange of multiple devices, with maximum repeatability. Extensive testing results demonstrate tolerances below 75 microns over a distance of 700mm.

FleXplate

One or more FleXplates can be included within the Smartcel 2 to allow rapid exchange of devices. FleXplate maintains the liquid spill isolation capabilities of the Smartcel, whilst providing clamping and docking solutions for nearly all instrument types.

The regular-spaced M6 threads allow for secure and reliable positioning.

Users can choose from:

Precision-machined plates to perfectly fit the instrument (designed by Flexible Lab Solutions)
Universal retention clamps
or simply 3D printing their own design.

FleXplate includes:

On-deck power and communications connectors for operator changeover.

Communications can be via Ethernet, RS-232,422,485. The 240v AC power outlets enable the use of OEM-supplied power cables, whilst still operating under the Smartcel E-Stop and power management systems.

Reading & Decoding

Barcode reader

Integrated high-speed barcode readers decode nearly all barcode formats used within the laboratory.

Providing over 500 scans per second and a barcode search facility ensures consistent and reliable decoding. The integrated mounting protects from exposure to laser emission and contamination from liquids.

XCarousel

The XCarousel maintains all the advantages of the XHotels, while being low enough to permit unrestricted access. It is also built to quickly dock the Xseries’ hotels and rotate the precision machined microplate shelves using our XLocator technology.

PlateNest

The PlateNest system seamlessly separates the upper and lower deck elements of the Smartcel 2, to maximise flexible integration space.

XHotel and PlateStaX storage systems can be ergonomically loaded and unloaded in seconds.

Multiple PlateStaX and XHotels can be used within the under deck PlateNest System, to dramatically increase microplate capacity and throughput flexibility.

Standard configurations allow for up to 13 individual process paths, with a notional capacity of 385 microplates. The addition of an expansion carousel can increase the plate capacity in excess of 700 microplates.

Dedicated Input / output channels allow for rapid transfer from the storage area to the process area, whilst ensuring deadlock issues do not occur.

Barcode readers can be included within the PlateNest to verify data and process integrity.

Additional devices which do not require regular operator intervention or consumable replenishment can also be situated below deck to increase throughput speed.
