In a gathering focussed on the cutting-edge advancements in agri-tech research, Syngenta ran an exclusive two-day event to showcase trending laboratory equipment and automation. The event, held at their state-of-the-art facilities at Jealott’s Hill, focussed on helping to broaden the awareness of laboratory automation within the organisation and generate discussions on future pathways to innovation and success.
Aside from a few external logistics issues (thanks to Syngenta for a rapid resolution), the event was a complete success and extremely well received by all those attending. With more than one hundred visitors scheduled to attend the physical exhibitions and presentations, it was clear to see the appetite for updating and modernising existing workflows via the introduction of automation and large scale data capture.
Flexible Lab Solutions has long been recognised for its contributions to the integration and servicing of laboratory automation systems across a diverse range of scientific sectors. Showcasing the LabworX™ SmartDeck, we were delighted to receive such high levels of engagement throughout the event. It’s maybe the baby of the bunch, but the power and versatility of integrating third party systems right onto existing lab benching certainly didn’t go unmissed. The mesmerising movement of robots always creates lots of excitement, but the ability to create, modify and adapt automation systems in-line with the business needs was clearly the resonating factor of the day. The notion that systems could be built for proof of concept and then scaled as the business case grew had many thinking about automation in a new light. No longer the scary large scale automation that initially springs to mind for too many users, experiencing SmartDeck up close certainly invoked some exciting discussion on the way automation can be used to advance discovery at Syngenta.
Managing Director, David Reed, gave a presentation entitled “Smartcel-2: Reformatting the System”, where he spoke of a case and outlined a previous LabworX project in which there was a need to combine multiple advanced liquid handling processes and link them back to the customer’s LIMs. Speaking about the presentation and the show, he commented “Great systems should be a tool to innovate and it’s really exciting to see how the next generation of discovery will feature automation at every level and engage with a new generation of scientists.”
Syngenta’s exclusive Lab of the Future event has been running for three years, and sees a significant turn out.
